Atmospheric quantum cryptography

Our group is devoted to the research in the area of free-space quantum communications. This includes development of free-space-based quantum key distribution systems as well as studies of free-space optical channels themselves. Atmospheric properties, such as the turbulence phenomena that lead to various beam distortions, place limitations on possible types of optical communications. First of all, we try to deal with transverse modal control, beam correction, and spatial mode multiplexing. In our laboratory we use a working model, a "turbulence machine", that helps to imitate real atmospheric channels for these studies. We also actively explore methods of quantum measurements, including quantum state tomography, for their use in quantum communication systems.
