High-dimensional quantum state engineering

Our group uses spatial degrees of freedom of single photons and entangled photon pairs to encode qudits - high-dimensional units of quantum information. We use spontaneous parametric down-conversion with a spatially shaped pump to create novel bright sources of spatially entangled two-photon states. Our current projects include engineering of arbitrary maximally entangled states of two qudits using the methods of adaptive optics, and exploring novel methods of measurements and quantum state tomography for high-dimensional quantum systems.

Adaptive quantum tomography

The group performs theoretical and experimental research in the field of quantum state and process tomography. Our main innovation is in using the state-of- the art methods of Bayesian statistics and machine learning to develop fast and precise protocols for quantum tomography. The main challenge we have to deal with is the dimensionality curse, to fight it we are developing methods for quantum property estimation and protocols with specific prior information, which may help to avoid full state reconstruction. Our experimental testbed includes all the experiments in the lab, with the photonic part being the most convenient.
